Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
