A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
